There is a lot to learn when it comes to taking care of your home on wheels. In a perfect world you would put it in a garage and store it out of the sun, but for most that isn’t an option. Even then you need to take care of your finish. Here are some of our most important suggestions.
- Wax is like sunscreen or your RV! We recommend waxing full body paint RVs that are stored outdoors once a year, and fiberglass RVs that are stored outdoors twice a year to keep them looking their best for as long as possible.
- On most of the west coast never use water out of the hose unless you have access to RO water. Most of the western states have very hard water containing calcium and alkaline which can do a lot of damage to your finish.
- On high quality paint use lambswool, or minimally, microfiber to minimize the risk of micro scratches.
- Avoid using high pH, caustic chemicals unless completely necessary. Dish soap is great but it’s meant to remove oil, so it’s also going to strip the wax from your RV. Caustic chemicals like degreasers should never be applied to dry surfaces and need to be rinsed immediately.
- Don’t forget about your roof! If you have a rubber roof you should be conditioning it (Check out RoofGuard by Dicor) multiple times a year, or if it’s fiberglass you can wax it to prevent it from oxidizing.
